Outreach Work

Liberty High School

I worked with the students from Liberty High School as a volunteer mentor for their FIRST Tech challenge robotics competition.

These photos were from our first robotics session where I introduced
to them concepts in mechanical, computer and electrical
engineering.

"Sometimes, I fix robots. Sometimes, I help make them smarter."

I shared my passion for STEAM with the students of Daniel Hale Williams School. They were so energetic and engaged. A group of kids that asked
really profound questions such as, "Is engineering hard?" and "What sort
of jobs did you do before you got this one?"

Gabriel Salvador and I taught the after school robotics classes under
the STEP research program at the Borough of Manhattan Community College where students all across New York came together to learn about robotics.

We also mentored them in researching and building robots using VEX
robotics kits. Out of the 12 schools, the two teams we have in the photo
brought home the first and second place trophies. A testament that team work and hard work pay off.

The photo above shows that of the 2017 STEP robotics team upon their return from their competition with the 2nd Place trophy, which will then find a home in our beloved engineering cabinet.

Middle School 498, Bronx, NY

MS 498.jpg

The STEP outreach program at the Borough of Manhattan Community College commissioned the robotics instructors to visit MS 498 in Bronx,
New York, to introduce to them the wondrous world of robotics.

The photo above is of students getting the experience of programming LEGO Mindstorms robots to navigate a maze. The concepts of sensors and microcontrollers were introduced to the students.
